Joan T. Cook

Executive Coach

Joan Cook is a Master Certified Coach with over 25 years of coaching experience. Having left a marketing management position at a major newspaper to pursue coaching full time in the early 90’s as the profession took off, Joan founded a coaching practice that became national and then international in scope. From working with small businesses and entrepreneurial ventures Joan’s practice gradually expanded to include executive coaching with senior leaders in banking, financial services, law, health care, government, grocery and technology.

As an executive coach at EY, Joan worked with new and more senior partners in Latin America as well as the US, both as an executive coach and with client-facing and functional leadership teams as an HPT (high performing teams) facilitator.

Joan’s passion for coaching includes training others in coaching skills. She designed and co-delivered an accredited coaching certification training program to over 100 EY talent development professionals in the Americas, enabling them to spread the reach of coaching within the firm to high potential senior managers, underrepresented minorities and women.

Joan holds a BS degree from Indiana University, an MBA from the State University of New York and an MA in Human Resource Management from Rollins College. Her coaching skills training was completed at Coachinc.com and she is certified in Tracom Social Styles, Wave, the Leadership Circle Profile, Immunity to Change and the Hogan Inventories.

Joan’s contributions and qualities in executive coaching include the following:

  • She is a deeply experienced executive coach with expertise in executive role transitions and transformative leadership development
  • Her background includes working with executives in Europe and Asia as well as Latin America and the US
  • Empathetic, yet unafraid to challenge a client’s thinking, with an ability to pare down to the essence of a situation
  • A consultant and facilitator with business development and relationship building skills and experience
  • She was once described by a partner at a prestigious law firm as “a conscience I can’t influence – and that’s a good thing.”
  • She is a founding member of the International Coaching Federation, the now-global membership and credentialing organization for professional coaches
  • Her experience living and working in Mexico early in her career helps her maintain a global perspective
  • Her personal purpose is “to be a catalyst for fulfilment – helping others turn aspiration into action in a constant and evolving partnership for fulfilling their lives, my life, and life itself.”
